Research and Teaching Experience

My research is focused on the design, synthesis and characterization of advanced coating systems using the principles of crystal chemistry, solid-state chemistry, surface engineering, powder processing, nanomaterials, thin films and sintering technologies.

I have developed innovative coatings for energy production, conversion and storage applications including thermal barrier coatings for land-based and aerospace gas turbines, membranes for gas separation, corrosion and wear protective coatings, solid-state batteries and solid oxide fuel cells, and catalysts for hydrogen production.

Having studied the structures and properties of various materials for more than 30 years, I have developed expertise in providing materials and processing solutions to real-world problems in various industry sectors.

My passion for learning and creating materials solutions were transferred through knowledge mobilization by training highly qualified personnel (HQP), graduate and undergraduate students in the academe and presentation of my work in various scientific fora.

A number of my previous trainees are now top-tiered in various reputable organizations around the globe.
